Addison Sandoval, a 2026 J.D./M.B.A. graduate of the University of Oregon School of Law and Lundquist College of Business, was sworn in as a member of the Oregon State Bar on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The Supreme Court of Oregon administered the oath of admission at a ceremony held at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon.
A Ceremony in Salem
In Oregon, new attorneys are admitted to practice by the Supreme Court of Oregon. Each one swears to support the Constitution and laws of the United States and of Oregon, and to be of faithful and honest demeanor in office. Admission takes effect the moment the oath is taken.
Sandoval took that oath alongside other new admittees at Willamette University, home of Willamette University College of Law, the oldest law school in the Pacific Northwest. The campus sits across the street from the Oregon State Capitol.
From the NextGen Exam to the Oath
The ceremony follows the release of results from the July 2026 Oregon Bar Examination, the state’s first administration of the NextGen Uniform Bar Examination. Sandoval sat for the new exam on July 28 and 29, 2026, and was among the first in state history to pass it. With the oath taken, he joins the Oregon State Bar as a licensed attorney.
Artist and Attorney
Sandoval’s path to the law began in storytelling. He earned dual bachelor’s degrees in political science and film and media studies from the University of California, Irvine. He then earned his M.F.A. from the USC School of Cinematic Arts and became an award-winning filmmaker. He brought that storytelling to the law, where his work focuses on criminal defense and civil rights.
At Oregon, Sandoval was part of the inaugural cohort at UO Portland. He partnered with Oregon Consumer Justice on consumer rights research and was named a 2026 UO 25 Ducks Award recipient. In June 2026, he delivered the graduate reflection at the University of Oregon’s inaugural ¡Sí, se pudo! Latiné Graduation Celebration.
Sandoval marked the day with the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
